Opening the first meeting of the G20 Energy Sustainability Working Group, Ksenia Yudaeva, Chief of the Presidential Experts Directorate and the Russian G20 Sherpa, said that the group is expected to focus on transparency of energy markets, on energy efficiency and on exchanging best practices.
The G20 took up the issue of transparency of energy markets at the very beginning and has already launched several initiatives in this field. "During its Presidency of the G20, Russia plans to shift the focus from collecting data about what has been done to forecasting future developments in this market," Ms. Yudaeva said.
The Russian Sherpa also spoke on the demand for effective market regulation aimed, in particular, at stimulating investment in the energy sector. "We propose, above all, developing a best practices sharing mechanism," Ms. Yudaeva said.
The group's agenda also includes elaborating on the initiative on facilitating transfer of best technologies helping to reduce the negative environmental impact of shelf and offshore energy production.
